Incheon International Airport (South Korea) needed a storm detection system and opted for PREVISTORM Thunderstorm Warning System

Incheon International Airport needed a storm detection system and opted for PREVISTORM THUNDERSTORM WARNING SYSTEM, which is formed by a field mill that offers uninterrupted information in real time about the value of the electrostatic field, allowing to know in advance the possible incidence of lightning strikes in a given location. In compliance with international standard IEC62793.

Incheon International Airport is South Korea's largest and most important airport. It ranks among the top 10 airports in the world for freight traffic and concentrates all international flights in the country, serving as a connection for passenger transit throughout East Asia. Its security protocols are very advanced and it is considered one of the leading technology airports throughout the Asian continent. In 2019, it held more than 404,104 air operations and 71,169,516 passengers came through it.

Solution

2 units of Previstorm Thunderstorm Warning System have been installed to cover the entire area of Incheon International Airport in South Korea, with the following objectives:

  • Protecting the aircraft take-off/landing system from the danger of lightning.
Airports are facilities that encompass large areas in open field, where aircraft and people are constantly moving around. Activities such as refueling maneuvers, storing and handling of flammable materials also take place in it.
  • Having information to assess the risk of lightning strikes and improve decision making (Decision Assistance System, SAD)
Protecting people is paramount. But also the protection of highly sensitive equipment that keeps the service running, and whose paralysis can result in serious losses is essential. Ensuring the safety of people and equipment against lightning is a priority.
