Instasquelec designs lightning prevention system for major mining company
Our partner, INSTASQUELEC PERU SAC (ITP), on the request of an important and prestigious mining operation located in the north of Peru, has carried out the installation of a Previstorm Thunderstorm Warning System (TWS) storm detector as part of their DSS (Decision Support System).
Mining operations are located in areas highly exposed to meteorological phenomena. The Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru in its Supreme Decree 024-2016-EM and 023-2017-EM, Article 382, paragraph regulates as follows: "A system of protection of personnel and facilities against thunderstorms must be installed in places where these natural phenomena occur, and must include storm detection and warning equipment, lightning rods and shelters."
MINING OPERATIONS NEED LIGHTNING PROTECTION:
- Due to their locations being exposed to meteorological phenomena: they are located in isolated open areas.
- Because they store and handle explosive and flammable substances.
- To avoid production losses in the event of an accident.
- For the protection of persons (workers) as indicated by the Law on the Prevention of Occupational Risks.
- Because the implementation of protection measures can be an indispensable condition of insurance companies in order to cover the expenses of a claim, or it can even reduce the price of the policy.
