External Protection No. No device can prevent the formation or strike of lightning. Protection systems are designed to intercept it and safely conduct the discharge to earth. Current standards (IEC 62305, NFPA 780, among others) define how to capture and conduct lightning safely, but to date no study or regulation explains how to prevent a lightning strike.
