Railway and road bridge with road, over the Danube River, linking the towns of Vidin (Bulgaria) and Calafat (Romania)
Opened in 2013, it links the towns of Vidin (Bulgaria) and Calafat (Romania), becoming the second link between the two countries. We recommend the INGESCO PDC lightning protection systems installation to protect the cable-stayed bridges from direct lightning strikes. They must be placed at each bridge tower.
In all cases, it will be necessary to install 2 down conductors to the earthing systems, which can be interconnected with the earthing of the pillar structure itself.
In case there are more than 60m high towers we recommend to follow the standard recommendations, which suggest an additional Lightning protection installation against direct lightning impacts in the upper 20% of the structure, or at any other 120m highest point. There must be also 4 down conductors installation, interconnected by a conducting ring, distributed along the perimeter at the four corners of the bridge tower.
